Preparing for your sacred journey - tips for the big day

It's the big day - you're about to take a journey into the unknown, into the depths of yourself where anything is possible. It's natural to feel more sensitive than usual - or excited, sacred, nervous, anxious.

Whatever you feel, you're allowed to feel it. In fact, I invite you to notice and feel it without reacting to it. That's where you true detachment comes from - where we can remain open -not constricting what arises, riding and trusting the flow.

Here are some tips to help you center and ground. Do what feels helpful, not what feels like a chore or pressure. Simply letting yourself be as you are is wonderful.

Mind & intention

As you focus on your intention, you may find breathwork, meditation, or prayer helpful to tune in further. Maybe you have a mantra that centers you. I like to focus on my breath and try to quiet my mind.

However, like the feelings, it's good to allow the thoughts that come - noticing, accepting, and not reacting (pushing away, feeding into, ignoring).

If you're having difficult thoughts or emotions, we can talk through them and you can ask yourself - how may you be self-compassionate and loving? Are there ways you self-soothe?

As we know, social media, news, and overall screen exposure can be distracting and disorienting - it's best to minimize time on your phone. (I highly recommend storing your phone during and after the journey so you can be focused on yourself and avoid what's disruptive and distractive.)

Set boundaries with others as needed.

Body & physical space

Eating before: I recommend not eating 3-4 hours before taking psilocybin. Having an empty stomach helps prevent nausea and increases digestion. If you’d like to eat, a small, light meal like oatmeal, a banana, or toast may feel easy on the stomach. Fasting is also effective and a great recommendation but you may feel lightheaded in the middle of the journey.

Snacks during/after: Bring a snack and drink to have during or after your journey (fruit, oatmeal, cookies, juice, coconut water, etc.).

Clothing: Dress comfortably as you will be laying down and you may notice sensitivity to textures and weight of clothing. Dress in layers to prepare for fluctuation in temperature. Do not wear any scented products as senses are heightened and this can be off-putting.

To bring: tissues, water bottle, blankets, pillows, eye mask; optional: altar items (stones/crystals, talismans, pictures of loved ones, medicine, etc.)

Spirit-centering

Spending quiet time in nature beforehand can be connective and grounding.

You're welcome to perform a ritual before or after your journey. Keep it simple and sacred. Be mindful of scents. This isn’t a good time to try new rituals, stick to things you already practice.

Lean on your support

And lastly, lean on your support system and guide for anything that you need before, during or after your journey. This is your sacred experience and I am honored to support you in any way you need.
