Psilocybin truly is magical - how it works from a psychological, neuroscience, mystical, and somatic perspective

Updated: Jul 13

Psilocybin is known as a breakthrough medicine for depression, anxiety, OCD, psychological distress, and trauma.

Many say - and studies show - one dose can offer more healing than years of therapy and pharmaceutical drug use combined.

I’ll give brief insight for this from a psychological, neuroscience, mystical, and somatic perspective.

Psychological

Psilocybin takes us deep within our subconscious and unconscious minds to see parts often unseen - our trauma and conditioning and our unique radiance - for a radical and fresh view.

We experience repressed emotions, events, and memories

We see unconscious patterns, behaviors, and limiting beliefs.

Talk therapy and modern medication cannot penetrate this space as quickly or easily, if even at all, ever.

This is where the term “psychedelic” came from - “psyche” and “clear/manifest”.

We remember we are not identified by these conditions and circumstances. We can see ourselves more broadly and clearly. We see the programming and coinciding symptoms. We remember our power and ability to reprogram.

It can open the mind and soften the heart, accessing more positive emotions and experiences.

Neuroscience

Psilocybin stimulates neurogenesis (repairing and creating new neurons) and neuroplasticity (rewiring, creating new connections/pathways).

It increases bursts in the locus coeruleus, the 'novelty detector', which can explain the renewed sense of awe and presence

Psilocybin activates serotonin receptors, which regulates emotions and satiation. When it's imbalanced, moods are low and a hunger seeks fulfillment.

The massive boost of serotonin from psilocybin is what gives us a taste of ecstasy and oneness - our true nature - in the psychedelic journey!!

Emotional intensity and repetition create lasting change in the brain.

We can rewire thought patterns and limiting beliefs, overcome fears, gain new perspectives, and dive into creativity.

We remember the expansive nature of our minds and genius ability to learn and create.

Mystical

Before the Western world began researching psilocybin for mental health treatment, it was used as a sacrament to commune with the divine and receive sacred messages.

Psilocybin can take us into the unknown, unseen, unfelt realms and non-linear time and space for an unfathomable experience with the cosmos.

Peering at our past lives, current circumstances, and higher-selves to retrieve and integrate all our parts

Journeying through alternate dimensions and soul variations  is unique to each individual. It bestows an ineffable, peak ecstatic experience that lends a profound remembrance of our divinity.

That’s where the term “entheogen” came from - “divine within”. (And why they were coined 'magic mushrooms' in the '50s.)

The sacred experience and epiphanies allow us to see beyond physical circumstances. We find courage to repair wounds and live aligned to our true essence while marveling at the mysteries.

We remember our eternal and divine nature. We remember ecstasy and bliss are our birthright and always accessible. We remember our inherent connection to all life.

Somatic

The body is the subconscious and higher mind. During a journey, sensations are amplified in as these parts of us speak.

It lends insight to thoughts and feelings stored in the body. Cellularly, things shift, possibly releasing what’s been stuck and blocked, offering healing and expansion.

We remember the energy and sensations in our body are not random or diseases but messages. We remember how to tune in and listen. As we rewire our minds, the body follows.

As  you can see, psilocybin is a holistic approach to healing, awakening and soul alignment.
